CREATION & COMMUNITY

Fall 2024

This is a project done by a group of three students. A space of community and creation is centered around open, fluid spaces that allow free movement. Using elements such as large sliding doors and navigator hallways that are not completely close to allowing privacy, the residence creates a place that invites the user to move freely. With much of Elina and Graham’s creation happening within the resident studio and office - photography, sculpture making, glassblowing, and other art forms - the spaces are intentionally created with tall spanning windows, open doorways, and skylights, to push creation underneath natural light.

Within the residence, the artists also desire connection and community, expressed by a looming guest room, client access and comfort, and an outdoor conversation pit that forms from the kitchen/dining space. The artist is given several spaces to bring family, friends, and other artists into their home. The residence’s comforting wood and concrete scheme and warm natural light make it an inviting space to gather and create.
